A little help.

Getting started
- Open the Course tab and tap Continue. The course starts with the sounds of Mandarin, then chapter 1.
- Already know some Chinese? Open the course library and choose Start my path here on any chapter. Skipped lessons are not marked as learned.
- Follow the daily plan's lessons, stories and reviews. Short, regular practice works better than long, rare sessions.
Check my tones
Tap Check my tones on a new word, after a tone drill, or in speaking review. Listen, then say the word slowly and clearly. Your pitch appears as a solid line over the dashed target shape for each syllable.
- Allow microphone access when iOS asks. You can change it later in iOS Settings → HanziCue.
- Speak in a quiet place, close to the phone, at a natural volume.
- The check measures pitch movement only. It can misjudge a correct tone, especially in fast or quiet speech, so compare the curves and trust your ear too.
Reviews and progress
Words come back in your lessons and in Revisit your words when they are due. A missed word returns soon; remembered words return after longer and longer gaps. Your progress is saved on this iPhone.
Back up and move to a new iPhone
Use Backup & restore in the course's learning settings to save a backup file of your course progress and voice replies, then restore it on your new iPhone. HanziCue has no account and does not sync through a server. Personal deck media is stored separately from course backups.
Audio and voices
HanziCue uses the Mandarin voices installed on your iPhone. For clearer audio, download an enhanced Mandarin voice in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Chinese, then choose it in HanziCue's voice settings.
HanziCue Pro and restoring purchases
The first eight chapters, imports and personal reviews are free. Pro unlocks the full course and widgets, as a monthly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase.
Use Restore Purchases with the Apple Account used for the purchase. Manage or cancel a monthly subscription in your Apple Account's subscription settings. Deleting HanziCue does not cancel it.
Widgets
Touch and hold the Lock Screen or Home Screen, tap Customize or the add button, and search for HanziCue. Choose the language and decks in HanziCue's widget settings. iOS controls how often widgets refresh.
Report a problem or a mistake in the Chinese
Include your iPhone model, iOS version, HanziCue version, the chapter or word, and the steps that caused the problem. Corrections to Chinese sentences, pinyin or translations are very welcome. Please never send passwords, payment details or verification codes.
