Getting started

  1. Grant your home folder in the native macOS picker. Add other locations only as needed.
  2. Click Scan Mac. Access is remembered for later launches.
  3. Browse Overview, Rebuildable, Review or Protected. Search names and paths.
  4. Review exact paths before moving eligible entries to Trash. Stop related apps and command-line tools and confirm they are stopped.

Why is a checkbox unavailable?

Protected, linked, cloud-backed and incomplete catalog entries are not automatically cleanable. A size alone does not make an item safe to delete. Coverage notes explain skipped and partial measurements.

Permissions

App Sandbox requires user-granted access. Clearspace remembers grants locally using security-scoped bookmarks. Reconnect if paths move or permissions change. Forget access removes saved grants without deleting files.

Storage totals

Scan Mac measures a supported catalog, not every byte or Apple’s System Data category. Available space may include reclaimable storage; it differs from currently free space. Compression, shared storage and partial scans affect comparisons.

App removal

Search supported installed apps and review exact bundle-ID-related files. Nothing starts selected. Related files may contain personal data. Shared containers, Apple apps and Keychain data are excluded. Use vendor uninstallers for system extensions.

Simulators

Inspect storage in Clearspace; manage and delete devices in Xcode. This sandboxed build does not directly delete simulators.

Recovery

History can restore supported recorded cache items while they remain accessible in Trash and the original path is free. Recover app-removal items through Finder. Permanent removal requires a separate confirmation and cannot be undone through Clearspace. Moving to Trash alone does not free space immediately. Keep backups.

Running tools

The sandbox cannot verify every running command-line process. Stop related tools and confirm this before cleanup. Detected running-app conflicts remain blocking.

Report a problem

Include app and macOS versions and reproduction steps. Redact personal names and paths in screenshots or reports. Never send passwords, private documents or signing credentials.
